Green award for construction sector’s confidential waste specialist

A leading specialist in confidential waste management for the construction sector, which is about to celebrate its 40th year in the industry, is celebrating an environmental award win.

Sheffield-based Russell Richardson, which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year, works nationally for property management companies, building firms, specialist suppliers to the construction industry, social housing landlords and facilities management companies.

Other clients include the head office of the Formula One Grand Prix team, numerous police forces, motor giants and famous British fashion designers, and thousands of SMEs.

The confidential shredding, archiving and recycling service has a fleet of mobile shredding trucks and collection vehicles on the road daily throughout the UK.

Founded in 1978 when painter and decorator Russell discovered there was money to be made in the pile of cardboard he was asked to shift before an office refurb, the company won gold for Environmental Commitment at the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards.

The company has also just been shortlisted for an environmental award in the Sheffield Chamber Awards next month (December 7).

“We are thrilled with our awards success. We felt that, as our anniversary nears, it was time to shout about our passion for helping the environment through recycling and keeping businesses and individuals safe from data thieves and in line with the law,” said Jonathan Richardson, who took over from his father as managing director in 1997.

“To receive this recognition as we approach our 40th year in the recycling industry is a great end to what has already been a fantastic year for us. The awards have brought us head to head with some of our region’s most reputable companies. To come out on top makes us feel very proud.”

The company, which has a £2million turnover, operates the Sheffield City Region’s only shredding plant, which deals with up to 200 tonnes of waste paper, plus commercially sensitive, branded, counterfeit or faulty products, every week at the rate of seven tonnes an hour.

A new breed of confidential waste - computer hard drives, mobile phones and laptops -  is now the biggest area of risk which many companies are failing to deal with safely. Russell Richardson’s Hi Tech item Destruction service wipes these items of data and recycles wherever possible.

The company also specialises in Secure Document Archiving.

Construction sector client Airmaster, a leading mechanical services company specialising in energy efficient heating and cooling systems for clients all over the UK, said the company’s shredder keeps them safe.
