Bassetlaw people urged to take up the Active Challenge for Sheffield Children’s Hospital

More than 3,750 children from the Bassetlaw region needed to be treated at Sheffield Children’s Hospital last year.

Some 328 had to be admitted for specialist care and 2,984 attended outpatients’ departments. A further 1,115 were treated as day patients.

The charity that helps the hospital to go above and beyond for its patients is appealing for support from the town for its 2018 fundraising campaign.

One of only four dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has some of the best medical and surgical services for children in the country.

“It does not only look after children from Sheffield, but from far and wide and as the hospital’s reputation for outstanding specialist care grows, demand for the its services is growing,” said David Vernon Edwards, director of The Children’s Hospital Charity.

“The charity needs ever greater support so we can keep on making the hospital even better. The children of Bassetlaw can rely on our hospital in their time of need, and we are hoping the people of the town will help us by getting involved in our Active Challenge campaign.”

The Active Challenge runs throughout 2018 and encourages supporters to organise their own fundraising fitness feats and improve their own health at the same time.

“However you want to challenge yourself – run, walk, swim, cycle or extreme obstacle - get your game face on and change the lives of young patients in the process,” said TCHC Community Fundraising Manager, Cheryl Davidson.

There are also some big event challenges to sign up for, include the Sheffield Half Marathon on April 8, the Sheffield 10K in September and the York Marathon in October.

“The Sheffield Half Marathon is just a month away. If you’ve resolved to get more exercise this year, or do some good for charity, help us by joining our charity’s Team Theo. We hope to raise a target of £45,000 for our amazing hospital,’

Last year the charity’s Team Theo supported 281  Sheffield Half-Marathon runners to raise over £40,000.
